Jonathan Majors' Film 'Magazine Dreams' Secures Premiere Date After Being Previously Pulled by Disney
Jonathan Majors' film "Magazine Dreams," a tale of bodybuilding, is finally slated for release after Disney initially removed it from their lineup due to Majors' legal entanglements. Briarcliff Entertainment, led by CEO Tom Ortenberg, has secured the domestic distribution rights, with the movie poised to hit theaters in early 2025.
Majors, known for his roles in "Creed III," Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," and the Disney+ series "Loki," portrays an aspiring bodybuilder in "Magazine Dreams." The film also features Haley Bennett. Ortenberg describes the movie as a visceral journey that challenges notions of ambition and identity. He praises Majors' portrayal of Killian Maddox as a performance that will be remembered as one of the most compelling and transformative in recent cinema.
Briarcliff Entertainment is also set to distribute "The Apprentice," a film exploring Donald Trump's real estate ventures in 1980s New York. The movie stars Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Strong from "Succession" as Roy Cohn, and Maria Bakalova, an Oscar nominee from "Borat 2," as Ivana Trump.
Initially acquired by Searchlight following its praise at the Sundance Film Festival, "Magazine Dreams" was scheduled for a December release. However, it was pulled from Disney's calendar as Majors' legal proceedings began. In December, a New York jury found Majors guilty of assault and harassment in a domestic dispute, convicting him of reckless assault in the third degree and a non-criminal charge of harassment. He was acquitted of another assault charge and aggravated harassment, avoiding jail but mandated to attend a 52-week domestic violence prevention program.
Majors was initially set to reprise his Marvel role in "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" and "Avengers: Secret Wars." Nevertheless, Marvel announced in July that "Kang Dynasty" would be replaced by "Avengers: Doomsday," marking Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU.
