Actor John Amos passed away in August, but his daughter only discovered his demise when the media reported it on October 1.

Shannon Amos paid homage to her father with an Instagram video, capturing a moment of the two dancing to “Dance with My Father” by Luther Vandross.

"I am at a loss for words... Our family was heartbroken to learn that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., passed on August 21st," Shannon Amos penned in the caption. "We are devastated and have many questions about how this occurred 45 days ago, only learning about it through the media like the rest of you."

The news of the actor’s death was made public on Tuesday by his son, Kelly Christopher Amos.

"It is with deep sadness that I inform you of my father's passing," the statement given to CNN reads. "He was a man of immense kindness and a heart of gold... beloved globally. Many fans saw him as their TV father. He lived a fulfilling life. His legacy will endure through his remarkable contributions to television and film as an actor."

John Amos was 84.

His children had a public dispute over his care last year after Shannon Amos alerted law enforcement about her concerns. She publicly stated her belief that her father was "a victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation."

At the time, the elder Amos was hospitalized and later released a statement through his publicist, asserting that he was well.
