Jennifer Lopez Shares How Her Life Transformed Over the Past Year
Jennifer Lopez is opening up about her life. In a discussion with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine, Lopez reflected on the past year, marked by the cancellation of her concert tour and the dissolution of her marriage to Ben Affleck.
Their dialogue began with Lopez's portrayal of Judy Robles in the film "Unstoppable." Robles is the mother of Anthony Robles, an athlete who, despite being born with one leg, excelled in wrestling.
Glaser connected Lopez’s role preparation to her personal battle with low self-esteem.
"My whole life has been about proving my worth," Lopez remarked. "Dealing with the sense of being enough is something you grapple with for a long time. Often, you're unaware of what's driving your choices."
Lopez attributed some of this drive to childhood experiences of feeling overlooked. "Being a middle child, having an extroverted mother and a father who was perpetually busy, left me feeling unimportant."
"That becomes ingrained in you," she continued. "As a parent myself now, I empathize more with their struggles. I love my parents, but their upbringing's impact on me is evident. You only realize these influences as they manifest in adult relationships."
The conversation shifted to her recent months, which have been challenging for Lopez.
While working on the movie, her "This Is Me…Now" album, a short film, and a documentary, she felt a sense of accomplishment. "I'm good," she stated. "I did the work, and then everything turned upside down."
Her much-scrutinized relationship with Affleck, which saw them reunite decades after their initial engagement ended, made headlines again in August when Lopez filed for divorce.
Now, she's focusing on the future, not the past.
"I'm excited," Lopez expressed. "Being on my own, I'm not seeking anyone. After all I've been through over the past decades, what can I achieve when I'm independently soaring?"
"What if I'm simply free?" she mused.
"Unstoppable" is set for a limited theatrical release in December.
