How Eva Longoria Discreetly Rescued ‘John Wick’
Not all champions don capes. Occasionally, they wield substantial bank accounts.
That's precisely what Eva Longoria did for the "John Wick" film, as highlighted in a Business Insider article.
In celebration of the movie's decade milestone, co-director Chad Stahelski recounted to the media outlet how they faced financial hurdles even before filming commenced.
"We were days away from starting, and a gap financing fell through, costing us nearly $6 million," he revealed. "We were independently sourcing funds for the bond, but a key investor failed to secure the necessary capital in time."
Co-director David Leitch and lead actor Keanu Reeves had already dipped into their own pockets, while producer Basil Iwanyk resorted to maxing out three credit cards to bring the revenge thriller to life.
When the project appeared doomed, talent agency CAA, responsible for assembling the financing, gave some of their clients a chance to invest, according to Stahelski. Longoria answered the call.
"She intervened heroically, delivering the gap financing less than a day before we would have had to abandon the film," Stahelski remarked.
He noted that Iwanyk kept her involvement under wraps until the 2014 movie's success. The film's triumph spawned three additional installments.
Longoria, renowned for her role on "Desperate Housewives," has since forged a triumphant path in production, with credits including Lifetime's "Devious Maids" and the reality dating show "Ready for Love.
