Andrew Garfield shares an awkward moment when he and Florence Pugh missed the 'cut' during a love scene shoot.
Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh's on-screen chemistry was so palpable during their latest film project that they completely missed their cue to stop filming a sizzling love scene. At a 92nd Street Y event last Friday, Garfield recounted the experience of shooting what he called a "very intimate, passionate sex scene" with Pugh, where neither heard the director shout "cut," resulting in an amusingly awkward situation.
In footage shared on social media, Garfield shared that this incident occurred during the very first take of the scene, conducted on a "closed set" with only Garfield, Pugh, the camera operator, and the boom operator present. "The scene intensifies as planned," Garfield explained. "We got into it, and went beyond the intended point simply because we missed the 'cut' cue."
Director John Crowley was in another room adjoining the filming location, Garfield noted. As the scene lingered, Garfield recalled thinking, "It felt like an extended take," seemingly sharing this realization with Pugh through a mutual unspoken understanding.
The mistake became clear to them only when they noticed the crew members turning away, trying to be discreet. Despite the prolonged scene, Garfield mentioned that both he and Pugh felt "secure" enough in their surroundings to allow the scene to unfold naturally.
"We Live In Time" features Garfield and Pugh as characters whose lives are irrevocably changed by an unexpected meeting, as described in the film's official synopsis. The movie is set to debut in U.S. theaters on October 11.
