Andrew Garfield is 'absolutely' open to reprising his role as Spider-Man
There's a distinct possibility that Andrew Garfield could once again swing through the cityscape as Spider-Man. This tantalizing prospect comes straight from Garfield, who revealed in an Esquire interview that he's "100 percent" open to reprising his role as the iconic superhero. His return hinges on several factors, such as the storyline being culturally enriching or offering an innovative, intriguing twist that captures his interest.
Garfield followed Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and while his initial portrayal in 2012's "The Amazing Spider-Man" alongside Emma Stone received accolades, the subsequent film in 2014 did not fare as well. The tepid response led Sony, the production studio, to indefinitely postpone a third film, leaving Garfield's Spider-Man in limbo—what he described as being "left dangling."
In a turn of events, Garfield donned the Spidey suit once more in a 2021 cameo for "Spider-Man: No Way Home," sharing screen time with Maguire and Tom Holland, his successor. Their joint appearance was met with widespread acclaim, propelling "No Way Home" to become the year's highest-grossing movie.
Reflecting on his return, Garfield described the experience as "really healing." He expressed affection for the character, noting the joy it brings him and others. Whether "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" will come to fruition remains uncertain, but should it happen, it promises to elicit widespread excitement.
